Trends — Keywords
As recently as two years ago, the process of optimizing web sites for search engine recognition under multiple specific keywords or keyword strings was much easier than it is today. Back then, in many cases, a website could simply add those keywords a couple times in a page’s content, title, and meta tags, and almost immediately gain recognition in several major search engines.
Unfortunately, as competition has increased among web sites on the Internet, so has competition increased among search engines. No longer can such simple changes produce such quick and effective results on the search engines. Today, websites must be much more careful about the manner in which they target keywords.
The Importance of Anchor Text
While good keyword placement in a web site’s content, title and meta tags is still important, search engines are placing more emphasis on the presence of keywords in link anchor text. As we all know, many search engines continue to focus on a website’s link strength as a major determinate of its ranking and search engine positioning.
However, more and more these days we are noticing that a web site will gain higher ranking under the keywords included in the anchor text of those links. Therefore, we believe that new SEO techniques will continue to revolve around quality keyword anchor text placement within a solid linking campaign.
