Reciprocal Links

The mutual exchange of links from one site to another.

Robot

Also "Spider" or "Crawl" — A program that search engines use to visit every URL on the Internet. The program follows all links and catalogs all the text of web pages encountered during its journeys.

Robot Exclusion Protocol

A text file placed on a web server that instructs search engine spiders not to record or index information in specified areas on your web site.

RSS

Really Simple Syndication — an Internet technology which allows you not just to link to a Web page, but to subscribe to it — you can be notified every time that Web page (or certain parts of it) change.

RSS Aggregator

a software program used to read RSS feeds. Some are used in connection with your browser, others are stand-alone programs for your computer. Here is a list of RSS Aggregators.

Search Engine

A specialized database which can be used to search for information on the Internet by entering key words and phrases into a search box on your Web browser. Search engines give you a list of Web pages that are related to the key words or phrases you enter.

SEO

Search Engine Optimization — strategies intended to make your Web site more appealing to search engines, and and which give search engines a better understanding of the content of your site.

Spider
